Another Record America's favorite minority has set another record: the biggest theft ever of Medicaid funds. In January Sheldon Weinberg, 64, and his two sons, Jay, 35, and Ronald, 42, were sentenced in New York State Supreme Court on grand larceny and conspiracy charges for collecting $16 million in fake Medicaid claims at their Brooklyn clinic, the Bed-Stuy Health Care Corporation. The special prosecutor in the case, Edward Kuriansky, called the Weinbergs' fraud not only the largest of its kind, but also the "most arrogant." The three men had no medical background whatsoever before opening their clinic. They programmed a computer at the clinic to generate fake Medicaid claims and medical charts for as many as 12,000 nonexistent patients per month -- a total of 381,000 bogus claims between 1980 and 1987. Sheldon Weinberg, who posted a $250,000 bond prior to his sentencing, has disappeared and is being sought by police. It is feared that he may have fled to Israel. It must be in their genes.
AIDS Chaos in Africa At an international conference on AIDS sponsored recently by South Africa's Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, experts on the disease painted a stark picture of the prospect facing the African continent, which now has an estimated ten million infected Blacks. The number is increasing rapidly, and the virus will have wiped out as many as 100 million Black Africans by the year 2000. If the present trend continues, they said, the continent is likely to degenerate into a mass of warring tribes well before that date, as industries, governments, and armies collapse. "Leaders in industry and government will die without replacements," reported Mr. Chester Nagle, director of the U.S. AIDS Policy Research Center. "For instance, there have been reports that two of Zambian President Kenneth Kaunda's sons have been stricken by the disease. And two years ago, 68 per cent of the HIV-positive people in the Zambian copper belt, which provides 90 per cent of that country's gross national product, were skilled professionals." An article in the Journal of the American Medical Association gave figures leading to a similar prognosis. The article reported results of an AIDS testing program in Uganda in 1988. Blood tests of more than 1,300 patients, ranging in age from eight to 85, in 15 Uganda hospitals found 42 per cent of them infected with the AIDS virus. And of apparently healthy persons who went to Kampala hospitals to donate blood for transfusions, 16 per cent proved to be HIV-positive.
The Wages of Equality For the past 35 years the American system of public education has been attempting to cope with the formidable challenge of educating an increasingly heterogeneous mass of students in ways designed to obscure, rather than recognize, the inherent differences in learning ability among them. The results have not been promising. Early this year, for example, the Educational Testing Service released results of the latest comparison of the mathematical skills of American teen-agers with those of youngsters from other countries. In tests given to 24,000 13-year-olds from the United States, Ireland, South Korea, England, and both English- and French-speaking provinces of Canada, the U.S. students scored dead last. Tests of geographical knowledge given to entering freshman college students last fall were equally depressing. The results were summarized by John Benhart, chairman of the geography and earth science department at Shippensburg University, in Pennsylvania: "It was absolutely incredible. Eighty per cent of them missed 30 out of 40 basic country locations in the world. Many of them couldn't locate Canada, Mexico, Japan, China, or Brazil. . . . Obviously when the Japanese market a product, they know the culture of the country, its language, and other things about the area. We don't even know where the place is." The National Geographic Society sponsored a more comprehensive test last year, in which 10,820 adults in the United States, Mexico, Britain, France, Italy, Canada, Japan, West Germany, and Sweden were asked to locate 16 countries, plus the Persian Gulf and the Pacific Ocean, on an unlabeled world map. No one was really surprised when the 18-to-24-year-old American participants came in last, behind even the Mexicans. The results of these recent tests merely confirm what most observers of the U.S. educational system have long known, and what has been hinted at by earlier, less comprehensive tests: as standards have been lowered to accommodate Blacks in a racially integrated system, White performance has fallen drastically. The negative impact of school integration on White students has been exacerbated by a concomitant drive against any grouping of students by ability. Ability grouping -- or "tracking" -- had been under attack by egalitarians as "undemocratic" even before the Federal government began forcing the racial integration of schools in the 1950s. It was argued that to put the most able students on a track with more-or-less rigorous academic courses, which prepared them for universities, while the poorest performers were relegated to shop and remedial courses, which prepared them only to enter the labor force upon leaving school, served to perpetuate artificial class divisions in American society. Then as now, liberals found it difficult to accept the fact that there are inherent differences in the abilities of individuals, just as there are differences in the average abilities of races. They preferred to believe that all differences in ability are only apparent, are based solely on differences in socio-economic status, and can be eliminated by providing all students with the same education. When Blacks began flooding into previously White schools with tracking systems, the lowest tracks quickly became virtually all-Black, while the higher tracks remained lily-White. This was intolerable to the egalitarians. They refused to accept it as evidence of a race-based inferiority in intelligence, of course, but they saw it as perpetuating social differences based on race. If the brightest White students studied calculus, world history, and Shakespeare, while the brightest Black students learned remedial arithmetic, remedial English, and automotive repair (and the duller Blacks smoked dope in the restrooms and terrorized the halls), the liberal dream of a completely egalitarian, racially blended society would take much longer to realize. In some schools tracking was eliminated altogether. In others the tracks were simply reconstituted in ways designed to get Blacks out of the lowest level and into the upper levels. For example, courses in mathematics and the physical sciences began de-emphasizing rigor, analysis, and problem solving and focused instead on "concepts." Students were made to believe that being able to talk in general terms about a subject is equivalent to understanding it. Tolerating that sort of foolishness in a world with no competitors to worry about is one thing. In a world where there are Koreans, Chinese, and Japanese who have a better grip on reality than we do, it is tantamount to suicide. One can attribute the loss of a substantial portion of America's industrial base to the Orientals' willingness to work for lower wages, to their better labor discipline, and to their race-consciousness (which makes each of them aware, from the head of the government down to the last assembly-line worker, that they are engaged in an enterprise for the strengthening of their whole people). But in the last analysis the blame must fall on America's growing failure to make the most of its best human material. The egalitarians who have wrecked America's schools prefer to see the country go under, rather than give up their perverse dream. Thus, year after year they cry for more money from the Federal government to build more schools, fund more special programs, and train more teachers -- all for a system which becomes Blacker and Blacker, more and more homogenized. And year after year the performance of American students slips further and further behind that of students in other nations.
Holocaust for Ishmael According to the Old Testament story, Ishmael was the son of the proto-Hebrew Abraham by his Egyptian concubine Hagar. Abraham later had a son, or so he claimed, by his Hebrew wife Sarah, when he was 100 years old. This second son, Isaac, became the father of the cunning, crafty, and deceitful Jacob, whose most notable accomplishment was the swindling of his older brother Esau out of his patrimony. Jacob was later known as Israel, and from him all Jews are descended, or so they claim. Shortly after Isaac, the racially pure grandfather of the Jews, was born, good, old Abe drove the half-breed Ishmael and his mother out into the desert to die. They found a well and managed to survive, however, and Ishmael lived to become the tribal father of the Arabs. To Jews today the name "Ishmael" is an inclusive term for all of Israel's Arab neighbors. With that preface, the following Jewish liturgical chant is presented. Orthodox Jews chant it in unison on their shabbos, or Sabbath: [Let this be] a day of light for Israel, The poem undoubtedly has a more religious -- and perhaps even a more melodious -- sound to it in the original Hebrew than in this translation; in the last verse, for example, the Hebrew words for "peace" and "holocaust" -- shalom and shoah, respectively -- are used. Anyway, even in English it gives some nice insights into the Jewish psyche.
Freedom in Argentina From March 1976 until December 1983 Argentina's Army waged a fierce war against Marxist terrorists in that country, eventually crushing them. During this period, the controlled news media in the United States wailed almost constantly about the lack of freedom in Argentina. They complained about censorship, about martial law, about the arrest of thousands of Marxist sympathizers. Most of all they complained about the "disappearances" of left-wing activists, a large percentage of whom were Jews. And they called loudly and repeatedly for democratic elections and a "return to freedom." The Army finally handed control of Argentina back to the politicians in December 1983. The ruling party was Raul Alfonsin's Radical Civic Union, many of whose members in the Chamber of Deputies were Jews, among them Caesar Jaroslavsky, who took the position of Speaker. Alfonsin staffed his new administration with many Jews as well. One of the first moves of the Alfonsin government was to put hundreds of Army officers on trial for "violations of civil rights" during the civil war against the terrorists. Another move was to begin outlawing any form of dissent against Jewish power in Argentina: in early 1984 Alfonsin introduced legislation modeled on that suggested by backers of the so-called "Genocide Convention." Alfonsin's legislation, which eventually went into force in August 1988, provides for up to three years imprisonment for anyone who commits a "hate crime." Included among "hate crimes" is the act of distributing any publication or belonging to any organization which promotes the superiority of one race or religion over another. The New York Times and other controlled media in the United States, which a few years earlier had complained long and loud about Army censorship of Argentina's leftist press, hailed the new law. A prosecution under the new law was initiated by Argentine Attorney General Luis Moreno Campo early this year. The defendants are members of a group which supported the Army during its anti-Marxist campaign -- and which also admires the former leaders of National Socialist Germany. Their specific offense was the placement of a paid advertisement in the daily newspaper La Nacion last October, eulogizing the late Joseph Goebbels on the occasion of what would have been his 91st birthday (October 28). Jews in Argentina screamed for blood, the government obediently complied, world Jewry is now patting the government on the head, and Goebbels' well-wishers are facing three years in prison for expressing their sentiments. That's the "freedom" the New York Times wanted for Argentina.
